Lily Mundt of Britton was recently crowned the Glacial Lakes 4H Rodeo Jr. Ambassador. Lily received the honor before the 4-H rodeo performance in Sisseton two weeks ago.

Several dedicated community members in Veblen have come together in the last few years to try to preserve and promote a local cornerstone- the old elementary school building. The space was falling into disrepair and becoming difficult for the city to afford when a committee formed to help with the goal of making the building into a useful and vibrant Community Center.

Veblen Rallies Around Old School Building

We are all familiar with the plight of small towns. People moving away, businesses closing and schools co-oping with the bigger next town over. It is difficult to fight that trend, but as a local community is discovering, it is not impossible. Several passionate people in Veblen are putting their blood, sweat and tears into keeping an iconic building not only standing, but useful and vibrant.

Storybook Land Theatre Travels Area, Entertains

Aberdeen’s Storybook Land Theatre (SBLT) has been hitting the road this summer, bringing music, laughter, and live theater to Journal Country. Audiences of all ages have enjoyed free performances of the play “The Perfect Dog,” plus live concerts.

Another Good Dousing

The weather Sunday developed into something that in recent months has been a rarity. An all-day rain shower for most of the area. It steadily rained from morning until well into the night. Much of the area reported around two inches of rain after the soaking. But some areas got substantially more than that. Folks around Clear Lake, Lake City, Eden and Langford measured around three inches. And weather reporters around Hillhead and Roslyn even recorded five or more inches.

Next Steps For Courthouse

Various Marshall County officials participated in a virtual meeting Tuesday morning regarding next steps for the courthouse project. Last week, county voters passed a $5 million bond for renovations to the courthouse plus a new law enforcement center.
