All In His Day’s Work
This past winter was a rough one for most in this neck of the woods. But for law enforcement and other emergency responders, it was extra difficult. Marshall County Sheriff Sam Swanson estimates that for every blizzard the area saw, and there were many, he and his deputies responded to four or five stranded or stuck motorists. Recently, Swanson was recognized in a small way for helping a specific motorist.

“If I Were A...”-Young Writers Publish Book
The students in the Britton-Hecla afterschool program, better known as the FUNtastic Club, are a creative bunch. For the second year in a row, the club wrote, illustrated and published their own original book. Last week, a special event was held to share their creation with their families.

Courthouse Bond Vote Pushed Back
At the Tuesday meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners, the board made the decision to wait on the bond election for the Courthouse project. Though no official date has been chosen, sometime in August looks likely. The election was originally planned for June 6 and sought to approve a $5 million bond for courthouse work.

Once Students And Now The Teachers
“I can’t imagine teaching or raising my children anywhere else,” emphasized Britton-Hecla English teacher Jenna Peters. Peters said this when discussing why she chose to teach in the school district she graduated from 20 years ago. She and many others in the district are part of a noteworthy trend of Britton and Britton-Hecla graduates who have returned to the area as educators.

Smithsonian Exhibit Soon At Fort Sisseton
Starting this Saturday, Fort Sisseton State Historic Park will be hosting a new Smithsonian exhibit: “Crossroads: Change in Rural America.” The exhibit has been made possible at Fort Sisseton by South Dakota Humanities.

Others believe a professional fighting event was not an appropriate use of the White House grounds. What do you think?
I have no problem with it. Presidents have hosted many types of entertainers and public events at the White House.
