Last week, the local winners of the American Legion Auxiliary Poetry and Essay contests were guests of ALA Unit 80 for supper and awards for the top three in each class. Phyllis M. Minser, 83, Moose Lake, died Friday, March 17, 2023 in Essentia, Moose Lake. She was born on July 17, 1939 in Britton, South Dakota to John and Frances Sattler. Phyllis grew up in the Eden, SD area. On May 26, 1962, Phyllis married Charles “Dick” Minser in South Dakota. They lived in St. Paul where Phyllis was a homemaker and an amazing Mother through the years. In 2016, Phyllis moved to Moose Lake. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and its St. Ann’s Guild. Phyllis’s greatest love was her family and especially her grandchildren. She also liked to garden. 03/22/2023 12:00 AM

For Likness, Life’s Still All About The Music

Most locals may remember Mike Likness holding a conductor’s baton in front of a band at a Britton school concert or leading the pep band at a sporting event during his 32-year tenure as band director. Or maybe recall him from his decades singing and telling jokes with the Uffda Brudders. Though he no longer stands on a stage or in front of a band, music is still an important part of his life. Poll: TRUMP FIGHTS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY President Donald Trump recently hosted a UFC mixed martial arts event on the White House South Lawn as part of a celebration tied to his 80th birthday and the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary. Some people view it as no different than other entertainers and performers who have appeared at White House events under various presidents. Others believe a professional fighting event was not an appropriate use of the White House grounds. What do you think?

I have no problem with it. Presidents have hosted many types of entertainers and public events at the White House.

It was unusual, but fine.

I think it was inappropriate to hold a UFC event at the White House.
