Relay For Life On Saturday
The 24th Annual American Cancer Association Relay for Life is ready, set, go for this weekend, Saturday, June 10. It will be held at Britton-Hecla School Arena. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. with survivor registration beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Britton’s ‘Beary’ Unexpected Visitor
Last week, the area was abuzz thanks to the arrival of a very unexpected visitor. A black bear was spotted near Britton last Thursday, June 1.

Holler And Deutsch Elected to LA Board
In Tuesday’s Langford Area School Board election, the incumbent and one challenger were chosen to fill the two vacating seats. Challenger Fallon Deutsch was the top vote-getter followed by incumbent Morgan Holler. The other candidate on the ballot was Scott Smith. Deutsch received 200 votes, Holler 192 and Smith 67. Voter turnout averaged about 40% across the four precincts with the Langford precinct seeing 57% of registered voters coming to the polls. All Election Results are unofficial until the Canvass conducted by the School Board at their July Meeting.

Storley Says Goodbye After 35 Years Teaching
Every spring our area high school graduates are celebrated as they finish a chapter of their lives and move on. Another group that gets less attention is the retiring educators who so importantly impact the lives of those students. This year only one teacher retired from the Britton-Hecla and Langford Area schools. With the end of this school year, B-H teacher Vonda (Luze) Storley is bidding her students goodbye after 35 years of educating.

Duerre Retires, New Norstar CEO
One of Britton’s long-trusted financial institutions is in the midst of a significant ‘changing of the guard.’ Norstar Federal Credit Union has hired their next President/CEO as Jane Duerre, who has held that position to this point, official retires this week. Jay Kruse is taking over the helm of the ship.

Three Running For LA Board
Langford Area School District voters will go to the polls on Tuesday to elect two members to the school board. Three candidates are running for the two spots on the board for three-year terms – incumber Morgan Holler and challengers Fallon Deutsch and Scott Smith.

All In His Day’s Work
This past winter was a rough one for most in this neck of the woods. But for law enforcement and other emergency responders, it was extra difficult. Marshall County Sheriff Sam Swanson estimates that for every blizzard the area saw, and there were many, he and his deputies responded to four or five stranded or stuck motorists. Recently, Swanson was recognized in a small way for helping a specific motorist.
