Local Roper Wins Title
His pickup was the center of attention in Britton on Monday.
Ryan Carlson of Britton competed in a NTR National Team Roping competition at the Rapid City Fairgrounds last weekend, and he came away a big winner, driving a new pickup emblazoned with decals touting him as a “Champion Team Roper.”
A total of 700 teams were entered in the competition. Called a progressive roping event, competitors must continue to make the cut to stay in the competition over the threeday period. Carlson teamed up with six different heelers during the event to come out on top.
“I’ve been to seven of these pickup events and have been close to winning but never got it done until last weekend,” said Carlson. “You need a little bit of luck and need to draw good heelers. The kid I won with was from Clark.”
