At Phil’s request, no funeral service will be held. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Sisseton, SD. Rev. Fr. Albert Cizewski will officiate. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Lake City Municipal starting at 4:00 p.m.
Phillip Vincent Hannasch was born on February 13, 1957, at Ft. Smith, AR, to Marvin Vincent and Rita Ann (Roerig) Hannasch. As an infant, he moved with his family to Sisseton, where he went to school. His sophomore and junior year of school were completed at a seminary school in St. Louis, MO, before he returned to Sisseton where he graduated. During his high school years, Phil participated in choir. He later attended college at both SDSU in Brookings and NSU in Aberdeen.
In 1980, Phil was united in marriage to Debra Thorsness. They made their home in Britton and became the parents of two sons, Alex and Ethan. Over the years, Phil worked at a number of different jobs. He was employed at Frank’s Red Owl in Britton; worked on the tree planting crew for Marshall County Conservation District; helped with the installation of the BDM Rural Water system; and worked the assembly lines at Truss Pros, Inc., Sheldahl, and Precision Wall Systems. Most recently Phil had worked as a custodian for the Britton-Hecla School District and at the Marshall County Court House.
Phil truly enjoyed working with his hands. He was a jack-of-all trades and was very gifted as a carpenter and electrician. Perhaps most of all, Phil loved to spend time with his boys, teaching them to hunt and fish. Many great memories were made at their family cabin on Clear Lake.
Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons, Alex (Angie) Hannasch of Britton and their children, Wyatt (9) and Hunter (5), and Ethan (Tiffany) Hannasch of Ipswich and their children, Paisley (4), Piper (2), and Brody (1); his mother, Rita Hannasch of Sisseton; and his siblings, Tom (Mary Jo) Hannasch, Beth Hove, Tony Hannasch, and Cheryl (Mike) Jedlicka.
Preceding him in death were his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father.
