Nipp, Brown To Retire At LA
After meeting in executive session for 75 minutes the Langford Area Board of Education accepted retirement requests from Superintendent Monte Nipp and High School Principal and Athletic Director Toni Brown at its regular meeting on Monday.
Nipp has served as superintendent for 20 years after coming to Langford from Hecla when that school consolidated with Britton. Brown has also been in the Langford District for 20 years, serving the last 14 as principal. Both administrators turn 60 this year.
The district will advertise for both the superintendent and principal positions with a closing date of Feb. 28.
In other action the board set June 16 as a possible election date. Three-year positions currently held by David Planteen and Amanda West, along with a two-year opening currently held by Lisa Olson, are up for election.
The board amended the 2020 school calendar by changing Friday, Feb. 7, to a weather make-up day. Students will attend classes until 2 p.m. with parent-teacher conferences planned from 3-8 p.m. An in-service had originally been scheduled instead of classes prior to conferences that day.
Nipp informed the board that staff will be attending a special ed co-op in-service in Warner on Friday. No classes will be held that day.
Brown told the board that junior and senior class reviews had been completed and all seniors are on track to graduate. He also noted that there will be a time change for the boys basketball game with Redfield on Feb. 15. The game will not be played at 1 p.m. to allow fans to attend the girls game at the Warner Classic at 6 p.m. that day.
The next meeting of the board will be Monday, Feb.
