Local Cowboys Travel To National Hereford Show
Tru and Tuf Hagen are true cowboys and look to be shaping up into great cattlemen. The brothers from rural Lake City are both members of the South Dakota Junior Hereford Association. They recently had a big adventure when they traveled to Madison, Wisconsin July 8th through the 14th for the Junior National Show.

Lang’s Harvest Days Legacy Lives On
This weekend will be full of Harvest Days fun in Britton and good times will no doubt be had by all. However, one event may be a little bittersweet for some- the family and many friends of Joe Lang. This year’s Harvest Days theme “Backyard BBQ in Memory of Joe Lang” is dedicated to that very man. Ahead of the festival, it is worthwhile to take some time to appreciate Joe’s contributions to the event.

Courthouse Bond Election on Tuesday
On Tuesday, Marshall County voters will go to the polls to decide whether to adopt a $5 million bond for renovations to the courthouse plus the addition of a law enforcement center.

Horton Opens Offroad Center
Last week, Horton Inc. in Britton invited the public to visit their facility. They had some exciting new developments to share, not the least of which was their new Offroad Center Building. The building is not only impressive in scope, but what it houses is also exciting not only for the company but also the area in general.

Why No Jail In New Courthouse Project?
The election over whether to adopt the $5 million courthouse bond is planned for August 8. In the past weeks, the county has published information in the newspaper, on their website and social media, mailed out pamphlets, and held public informational meetings to educate the public regarding the need for and goals of the project. One issue that has been repeatedly brought up is the lack of a jail in the plans for the new law enforcement center. County officials and the project architect took some time to address that decision.

Knecht New B-H Board President
At Monday’s Britton-Hecla School Board meeting, the board certified the votes cast in the school board election held last month as true and correct. The new board was convened and subsequently oaths of office were administered to Business Manager Kayla Hastings and to Board Members Kelli Erickson, Angela Grupe, and Heather Landreth.

Rags to Rugs: Local Couple’s Colorful Hobby
When Donna Lindberg was five years old, she remembers her mother buying her first loom in Davenport, Iowa. Her family lived in Illinois and came across the border to buy the big contraption. Lindberg soon found herself and her siblings helping her mother make rugs out of clothing scraps. Decades later, Donna and her husband Larry are carrying on the family tradition of rug-making and sharing their handicrafts across the country.

Former LA Supt. Has Certificate Revoked
After a recommendation that his teaching certificate be suspended for three years by the state Professional Administrators Practices and Standards Commission, former Langford Area Superintendent Ryan Bruns later had his license permanently revoked. The decision was made April 21 upon review of the case by Dr. Joseph Graves, South Dakota’s new Secretary of Education. Documents about the case were publicly released last week.
