U12 Nine Third In Tourney

The Britton U12 baseball squad picked up five wins in seven starts that included a nohitter and a third place tournament finish during the past week.

This week the local nine, now 20-10, travels to Sisseton Red on Thursday for its regular season finale. The state tournament is set for Webster July 7-9.

“The boys are playing well and just looking for that last spark before the state tournament,” said Coach DuWayne Bosse.

Britton split a twin bill with Groton last week Tuesday, falling in the opener in seven innings 7-6 but rebounding with a two-run rally in the final frame for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap. On Thursday the locals swept Sisseton Black with a 13-0 one-hitter and a 12-0 no-hitter. Milbank scored six runs in the fourth inning to win 9-8 in a tournament in Groton on Sunday, but the Junior Jacks battled back with a 7-0 win over Aberdeen Borge and a 16-10 verdict over Groton to take third place honors.

Britton 6-6 Groton 7-5

Groton jumped out to a 5-2 lead before Britton rallied for three runs in the third, both teams scored a run in the fifth to force extra innings, and Groton pushed across the game-winner in the seventh in game one.

Bowen Micko tripled and singled, Jack Teveldal had two singles, and Liam Peters, Max Suther, and Luke Bosse had base hits. Teveldal started on the mound and fanned eight in three innings. Trey Biel and Peters came on in relief and Peters struck out four.

In the second game Britton broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third, but Groton came right back with three in the fourth and then went ahead 54 in the top of the fifth. But Bosse’s crew rallied in the bottom of the fifth for the win (Continued on p7) on Micko’s walk-off two-run homer.

Jack Teveldal added a double and single, Max Suther homered, and Peters, Bosse, Drew Heitmann, Blayden Downs, and Jarrik Jones added safeties. Bosse went two innings on the mound and Heitmann, Joseph O’Brien, and Micko each pitched an inning in relief.

Britton 13-12 Sisseton Black 0-0

Britton ended both games after four innings on the 10run rule and allowed just a single hit in the twin bill.

Levi Mills and O’Brien combined for the one-hitter in the opener with Mills hurling three innings and striking out nine. In game two Easton Zuehlke and Jacob Folkman teamed up to fire a no-hitter with Zuehlke fanning seven batters in three frames.

Carter Nelson, Mills, and Chaz Vietor all slammed homers to lead Britton’s 12hit attack in the first contest. Teveldal added three singles, Zuehlke and Micko both had two singles, Mills added a single to go with his homer, and Downs had a safety.

In the nightcap Teveldal and Bosse each laced a pair of singles, and O’Biren, Downs, and Carter Grobe each singled.

Groton Tourney Milbank 9 Britton 8

Milbank exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and then weathered a Britton rally.

Britton led 4-3 after three innings but Milbank’s sixrun fourth inning rally gave them a 9-4 lead. The local nine battled back with a fourrun rally with two outs in the final inning but came up short.

Heitmann rapped a pair of singles, and Teveldal, Suther, and Mills added base hits. Heitmann started on the mound and went three innings with Mills and Micko coming on in relief.

Britton 7 Aberdeen Borge 0

Britton scored three runs in the fifth inning to put the game away and post its third shutout of the week.

Biel, Teveldal, and Bosse teamed up on the mound. Bosse ripped a triple and single, Peters tripled, and Teveldal, Zuehlke, Biel, and Grobe singled.

Britton 16 Groton 10

Britton trailed 6-5 heading into the final inning but had a huge 11-run fifth frame, sparked by Heitmann’s homer, to take charge.

Suther added a triple and single, Micko and Grobe both doubled and singled, and Teveldal, Parker Lambertz, and Henry Kilker singled. Heitmann pitched the first three innings and had relief help from Biel, Mills, and Bosse.
