U10 Club In State Tourney
The Britton U10 baseball team picked up one win in four starts in the state tournament played in Parker last weekend.
The local nine fell to Parker 13-8 and Salem 6-3 in pool play but opened tourney action with a 9-4 win over Castlewood before being blanked by Bruce 15-0.
Parker 13 Britton 8
Despite leading by as many as five runs, the U10 Junior Jacks could not hold on against Parker.
Britton jumped out to a 5-0 first inning margin but Parker grabbed a 6-5 lead in the second before the locals knotted the game at 6-all in the third. Parker rallied and led the rest of the way.
Brady Heitkamp led Britton with three hits, and Ben O’Brien., Corbin Dawson, and Talon Dinger each collected multiple hits.
Salem 6 Britton 3
The game was tied at 3-3 in the fifth when Salem rallied with three counters for the victory.
Dinger was 2-2 at the plate, Heitkamp, Breven Schmieg, and Dinger each collected an RBI, and Colton Biel stole two bases.
Britton 9 Castlewood 4
O’Brien struck out 11 batters while pitching four and two-thirds innings to lead the Junior Jacks to the win over Castlewood.
The game was tied at6 3-3 in the fifth but Britton exploded for six fifth inning runs, the biggest blow a three-run double by Dinger. Heitkamp doubled and singled twice to lead Britton at the plate, while Dinger had a double and single.
Bruce 15 Britton 0
Bruce started fast with eight runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Heitkamp had a hit and two stolen bases, and Isaac Richter added a safety for Britton.
