Sharpshooters Fare Well

Virtual competition came in handy this past weekend as the Marshall County 4-H Sharpshooters participated in the Delta Waterfowl Virtual BB Gun Tournament sponsored by the Pierre Junior Shooters.

Forty-eight teams and 299 individuals from across South Dakota took part in this virtual tournament.

Clay Crawford from the senior division finished second overall with a score of 484 and 19 center shots. Brother, Austin Crawford, finished seventh at 481.18, and sister, Amelia, finished 11th at 471.13. Baylee Bender came in at 29th scoring a 460 and 14 center shots to finish off the top 10 percent.

With 19 teams in the 12 and up division, the Marshall County team of Austin Crawford, Amelia Crawford, Baylee Bender, Kaylee Carlson, and Kaylee Biel put together a score of 2311 and 58 centers. This placed them third in the tournament and for the first time this season finished as a team in the top three.

Amelia showed her marksmanship in the standing position, finishing first with a score of 96 and five centers, along with fourth in kneeling at 97.04. Austin received an individual award in standing, shooting a 95 and five center shots.

An almost perfect target for Kaylee Carlson in prone, scoring a 99 with six centers, was good enough for fourth place, while teammate Baylee Bender was fifth in kneeling at 96.04.

Rosalyn Rapkoch continued to show her marksmanship by putting together an aggregate of 450 and four centers for first place in the 8 & 9 year-old among 91 competitors. Her team including Skyler Bender, Ariana Crawford, Tina Rapkoch and Lukas Knudson put up a score of 2093 and 25 centers for second place in their division. Rosalyn was also first in kneeling at 93.01, eighth in sitting with a 92.02, and ninth in prone at 94.01.

Following her with a sixth place overall placement at 433.07 in aggregate, sixth in standing at 83.01, and ninth in kneeling, shooting an 86 and one center, was Skyler Bender. Ariana Crawford was eighth overall at 428.05, second in kneeling at 91.02, and 10th in prone shooting 91 and three center shots.

Not letting her sister get too far ahead of her, Tina Rapkoch put together a score of 427 and six center shots for 10th and a second place prone score of 97.03, just three points off of a perfect target for an eightyear- old! Shooting identical scores of 454 and nine centers placed Alivia Crawford in eighth place and Rylan Carlson in ninth place in the 10 & 11year-old division. Alivia continued with her marksmanship for first in kneeling at 96.03 and fifth in sitting with a 95.03. Jacey Melroe finished fourth in both standing and sitting with scores of 89.01 and 95.04 respectfully. Rylan received recognition for his 92.02 in kneeling for seventh place.

Receiving recognition for the safety test were 100 points – Amelia Crawford, Austin Crawford, and Clay Crawford; a score of 94 for Kaylee Biel and Charlie Schuller; and a 90 for Kaylee Carlson, Baylee Bender, Rosalyn Rapkoch, and Rylan Carlson.

The Sharpshooters will end their competitive season with the tournament sponsored by the Humboldt Sharpshooters in a couple of weeks.
