Netters Streak Ends At 3

The Britton-Hecla volleyball squad ran its winning streak to three games before dropping its first match of the season last week.

Coach Jenna Peters’ squad downed Tri-State in four sets last week Tuesday 25-18, 2125, 25-15, 25-19 and then lost to Webster Area on Thursday in straight sets 25-17, 25-17, 25-14.

“We played well against Tri-State. Our hitting was much better as well as our communication and timing,” said Peters. “At Webster we had a harder time communicating and or passing wasn’t great, but we are looking forward to playing Deuel on Thursday. They are a tough team, but we are ready.”

The Lady Braves host Deuel on Thursday with the C match starting at 5 p.m. and the junior varsity and varsity to follow. Saturday the local netters will compete in a tournament at Clark beginning at 9 a.m., and Monday Langford Area comes to town with junior high matches starting at 4 p.m. and JV at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow.

B-H 25-21-25-25 Tri-State 18-25-15-19

The Lady Braves coupled a one-two punch at the net with a stellar serving performance in rolling past Tri-State in four sets.

Kaegan Fredrickson came up with 12 kills and Tiyanna Schott had 11 as B-H pounded out 51 kills as a team. The squad also committed just five service errors from the service line, hitting 89-94.

Two Fredrickson kills, one from Schott, and a Emma Kraft block helped B-H to a 14-9 lead in the opening set. Tri-State cut the margin to 1715 but another Fredrickson kill and two more from Schott spurred a 6-0 run and a firstset win.

Another six-point run in the second set, this time spurred by a Fredrickson kill and back-to-back aces from Schott, put the Lady Braves up 10-5 on the way to a commanding 19-11 margin. BH still led 22-15 on a Karlie Zuehlke kill but didn’t score again as Tri-State scored 10 straight to even the match.

The six-point run theme continued in game three when Fredrickson and Schott had kills and B-H went up 13-7 following a long rally. The local netters extended that lead to 20-11. Tri-State cut the margin to six but this time there would be no big comeback as Fredrickson came up with a block, and Schott, Mallory Grupe, and Kraft had kills.

Tri-State led the fourth set 10-9, but Kraft served six straight points and had a pair of kills to give the Lady Braves a 16-11 lead. B-H still led 2316 when Tri-State made things interesting again, cutting the margin to 24-22 before Peters’ crew earned the match victory.
