B-H Track Set For NEC

In Sisseton On Thursday

Britton-Hecla tracksters competed at Sisseton on Friday and part of the squad participated in the Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls on Friday and Saturday as they continue to work to rank among the top 24 in the state to earn a berth in the state meet set for Sioux Falls May 23-25.

The boys 800, 1600, and 3200-meter relay teams competed in Sioux Falls. None of the quartets placed among the top 10 but the medley foursome of Dashel Davidson, Bryce Hawkinson, Ben Suther, and Daniel Person knocked six seconds off its season best and stands 14th in the state. The 1600 unit of Hawkinson, Suther, Will Richter, and Person was 14th in Sioux Falls and the 3200 squad of Richter, Mitchell Burger, Hawkinson, and erson was 17th.

The rest of the B-H squad participated in the Sisseton meet.

“The boys competed well at Howard Wood,” said BH coach Stephanie Symens. “We dropped six seconds off of the medley relay time and that’s with a handoff we need to work on and another runner stepping in front of us on another handoff. Our 3200 and 1600 relay times were about where we entered. It was nice to finally be able to run in nice weather.”

At Sisseton a short-handed boys’ squad finished last in the 15-team field, while the girls placed sixth. Abby Lee was back for the Lady Braves after sitting out the first part of the season with a gymnastics injury, and last year’s state qualifier was fourth in both the long jump and triple jump.

This week Britton-Hecla will compete in the Northeast Conference meet in Sisseton on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and will travel to Warner on Tuesday.
