The Britton-Hecla and Langford Area volleyball teams both fell in quarterfinal play of the Region 1B tournament last week Tuesday.

Britton-Hecla got Hitchcock-Tulare’s attention by taking the opening set and was in the thick of things in sets two and four before losing 3-1.

“I was really impressed on how our girls showed up, especially after a long bus ride,” said B-H coach Megan Ochsner. “They came ready to play. We had very few errors the first two sets and it showed.

“The girls started out aggressive which helps puts us in a position to stop other teams. In set three, H-T brought it. They have some really talented young hitters that started to connect in sets two and three and it was harder for us to stay aggressive. The girls came around in set four and battled until the end. Unfortunately it ended in a loss but also ended the season on good notes, playing and competing against a good volleyball team.”

Kaegan Fredrickson led BH in regional play, connecting on 16-19 serves with three aces and recording eight kills, hitting 24-28 at the net. Sterling Brassfield was 18-19 with five kills and Alyssa James added 18-20 with four kills.

Langford Area didn’t go down without a fight but lost in straight sets to Leola-Frederick.

“We really thought we could give Leola-Frederick a battle, and I think we did,” said LA coach Susan Larson. “Both teams played hard and fought for every point. I was proud of the girls’ performance in the last game despite losing. We were able to make some adjustments at practice and I think the girls did a good job of trying to carry out the game plan.”
