SD lawmakers debated how to approach data centers this session, weighing potential economic development against concerns about protecting the state’s rural character. Several proposals that would have offered tax incentives to attract data centers failed to pass, while Senate Bill 135, sometimes referred to as the “Data Center Bill of Rights,” was approved to place limits on electricity and water usage.
