OPTING INTO ED. TAX CREDIT

Gov. Rhoden announced last week that the state will join a federal program that gives donors a 100% tax credit (up to $1,700) for contributing to approved private-education scholarship funds. The program is voluntary and differs from past voucher-style proposals that lawmakers have rejected. Supporters say it boosts options; critics worry it pulls support from public schools.
