RUDOLPH “RUDY” SCKERL

RUDOLPH “RUDY” SCKERL

The Mass of Christian Burial for Rudolph “Rudy” Sckerl will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at St. John de Britto Catholic Church of Britton. Rev. Fr. Albert Cizewski will officiate and interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Lake City. Closed casket visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church on Saturday.

Rudolph Edward Sckerl was born August 24, 1943 in Britton, SD to Rudolf and Cecilia (Trautner) Sckerl. He graduated from Roslyn High School in 1961. He served in the Marine Corps from 1964-1967, spending a year in Vietnam. After returning home, he met and married Mary Dahlin on April 25, 1970. They made their home on the original Sckerl homestead near Lake City, SD. He farmed for a time but more recently focused on raising cattle. He was devoted to the herd as he could be seen checking them multiple times a day, and he proudly claimed that he only left the county when necessary.

He was a member of the Legion Post 80 and the VFW Post 3507 where he served as commander. Each year he enjoyed celebrating the Marine Corps birthday. Perhaps many will remember him for his red Marine jacket and love of singing at church.

Rudolph (Rudy) Sckerl passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Sckerl farm at the age of 78.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Sheila (Wendell) Anderson of Britton, SD; two grandchildren, RJ Thompson and Cecilia Anderson, as well as a sister Rochelle (Roy) Winder.

Preceding him in death were his wife Mary Sckerl, parents Rudolf and Cecilia Sckerl, son Paul Dahlin, sister Maxine Heitmann and brother Max Sckerl.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Sheila Anderson – Box 952 - Britton, SD 57430.
