RONALD HAALAND

Ronald Haaland of Veblen, SD passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Tekakwitha Nursing Home in Sisseton, SD. He was 80 years old at the time of his death.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church, with burial at Palestine Cemetery.

Ronald Luther Haaland was born on April 3, 1941 in Veblen, SD to Marvin and Ruth (Engnes) Haaland. He farmed in the Veblen area and lived in the family home for most of his life, until health problems necessitated a move to an assisted living facility in 2021.

Ronald was a generous man who did much to support his family and community. He was a member of the Veblen Community Club, supporting the annual Veblen Rodeo. He gave generously to numerous charities, including lo cal fire departments. He was the treasurer for Our Savior’s Cemetery Association and for Palestine Church and Cemetery, where he was the caretaker of the church for years. He shared the abundance of his garden with neighbors and folks at the Senior Center. His family looked forward to the delicious sweet corn he shared every August.

Ronald enjoyed bowling, golf, and pheasant hunting. He participated in town celebrations and ran the Veblen 5k several times. He supported the Haaland Family Reunion for many years and contributed to the family’s genealogy research.

Ronald was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his brothers, Jerome (Karen) Haaland and Darwin (Linda) Haaland, three nieces, a nephew, and many grandnieces and nephews.
