Rodney Burnell Eikamp was born October 20, 1951, in Britton, South Dakota to Frederick B. and Helen (Peterson) Eikamp. Rod passed away peacefully January 24, 2024, surrounded by family.

He attended Britton schools and received his diploma from Britton High School in 1969. Following high school, Rod enrolled at South Dakota State University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in Sociology.

Rod was united in marriage to Cindy Zuehlke on January 5, 1972. They had been married 45 years when Cindy passed away in 2017 at the age of 65.

Upon graduating from college, Rod was named manager of High Grade Oil Company, Groton, SD, in 1974. After leaving High Grade Oil in 1980, Rod continued his education at Northern State University and earned an additional degree in Accounting, which landed him a position as a Sales Tax Auditor with the State of South Dakota. He was holding that job when he was presented with the opportunity to purchase the Twist Cone, a popular family attraction in Aberdeen.

A hard, hard worker, he worked 18 hour days every day of the season from March 15th through September 15th without a break. Pre-season months were busy with maintenance, planning and hiring approximately 30 part-time workers for each season. For most of the young employees it was their first job experience, so Rod was careful to teach each person how to do their jobs correctly and efficiently while treating their customers with courtesy and respect. He maintained lifelong connections with several of his former workers.

Rodney was a no-nonsense person when it came to business dealings and his personal standards. At the same time, he and Cindy quietly and generously gave back to their community.

They are both greatly missed.

Rod is survived by brothers Kevin (Rita) Eikamp, Dysart, Iowa; Curtis (Jeanine) Eikamp, Buffalo City, Wisconsin; nieces: Emily (Matthew) Appleton, Mount Vernon, Iowa; Mandy (Mike) Brown, Urbandale, Iowa: Amber (Josh) Bowen, Cumming, Iowa; nephews: Adam (Dawn) Eikamp, Dubuque, Iowa; Peter (Amy) Eikamp, Dysart, Iowa; Matthew Eikamp, Augsburg, Germany; Jordan (Stephanie) Eikamp, Plantation, Florida; and Dustin Andrews, Walhalla, South Carolina; in-laws: David and Brenda Andrews, Britton, South Dakota; and Rod’s furry partner, Ryder.
