Neil Peters passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday evening, March 12, 2022, surrounded by family at the age of 82.

Neil Herbert Peters was born February 4, 1940 in Britton, SD to Herbert William and Hazel Ellen (McCarthy) Peters. He grew up and attended school in Britton and graduated from Britton High School in 1958.

Over the course of his work life, Neil held a number of different jobs. Most of them were relating to financing and bookkeeping. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service, served as the Marshall County Treasurer, kept books for Cenex and the newly formed Credit Union as well as Jarrett Farms.

He eventually took a job keeping the books for Jerry Bair at the Britton Airport. There he found and developed his true passion – flying. He took lessons from Jerry and eventually became a licensed pilot. For the next 26 years, Neil worked as a crop duster. He not only flew in the Britton area, but also Clark, SD and as far away as Arizona. He was always willing to help out a fellow crop duster who might be in need of an experienced pilot.

For nearly three decades, Neil’s life has been enriched by sharing it with the love of his life, Barb Dahme and her family. He truly served as a role model for her children, and couldn’t have loved the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren more had they been his own flesh and blood. As a blended family, they were a prime example of love and caring.

After retiring from crop dusting, Neil noticed that a number of golfers were having a hard time locating little white balls that they were chasing around. He offered his talents as a groundskeeper to make life a little easier for those poor golfers! He also enjoyed traveling quite extensively and took several cruises with Barb and friends, visiting Florida, Hawaii, and spending several winters in Arizona, where they purchased a winter home. Neil’s quick wit and ready ‘one-liners’ were well received and made a lasting impression on many.

Grateful for having shared his life are his loving companion, Barb Dahme of Britton; her three children: Troy Dahme of Britton, Kristin Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, and Timothy (Dani) Dahme of Britton; ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Darlene Peters of Alamo, TX, and a number of nieces, nephews and their families.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Leo Peters and his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Bill Tisher.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Barb Dahme – Box 482 – Britton, SD 57430.
