MICHAEL “MIKE” FORRESTER
The funeral for Michael “Mike” Forrester will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate. Spring interment will be in the Britton Cemetery with military honors, under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Michael Wayne Forrester was born on June 13, 1947 in Akron, Ohio to his late parents Tech Sgt. Gather Wayne Forrester, Opal Lenora Forrester Pacic and stepfather Donald (Duke) Pacic. Mike attended thirteen schools growing up. Seven of his schools were grammar schools starting at Munich American in Germany all the way to Ravenna, Ohio. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1965. Upon graduation and his 18th birthday, he entered the United States Air Force, completed basic training at Lackland AFB, and was assigned duty at Minot, ND AFB where he was a crew chief on B-52s. After his discharge, he attended Dickinson State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Education and Accounting.
After graduating from college, Mike went to work for John Deere Company as a territory manager for 9 years and, in 1981, built and owned a new John Deere Dealership in Britton, SD where he raised his family. He resided in Britton most of his life until he retired. His John Deere business awards provided many opportunities to travel throughout the world including visits to China, Russia, and Hawaii.
Mike enjoyed a variety of sports including fishing, pheasant hunting, and golf and was an active member of the community. He was involved in many community programs including youth baseball, the American Legion, an investors club, the Britton Country Club and was President of the Tri-State Implement Dealers Association.
After retiring, Mike and Marcia moved to Gulf Shores/ Foley, Alabama where he was a member of the Elks Lodge 2189 and American Legion 44. What he most valued was volunteering at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL where he achieved over 4,000 hours of volunteer time. At the museum, he served on the Board of Directors, the Volunteer Advisory Board and was a valued tour guide to veterans, children, and guests of the museum. Mike was most proud of his time there serving on the flight line for The Blue Angels air shows.
Michael Wayne Forrester Sr., 75, of Foley, AL, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 with his wife Marcia and kids by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Forrester (former Principal of Britton High School); his children: daughter, Katherine Forrester Schneewind (Randy Schneewind), beloved grandson, Remington Steele Forrester Wirth; son, Michael Forrester Jr. (Jackie Mennie), beloved grandson, Mack Jesok (MJ) Forrester; Katherine and Michael’s mother, Ardelle Forrester; stepdaughter, Melanie Martz; stepson, Mike Martz; sisters: Sharon Goodwin (Ed) and Michelle Forrester (Ray); and 5 nieces and nephews.
