MAVIS OSTERMAN

Mavis Irene Osterman, age 81, passed away after a short aggressive battle with breast cancer at Strand-Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn, SD, on January 27, 2024.

Funeral Services will be Friday, February 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt officiated by Pastor Vern Donnell.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue Friday one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton. Pallbearers will be Todd Block, Perry Dykstra, Zach Dalberg, Bill Anderson, Tim Osterman, and Joe Schneider. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Mavis’s grandchildren.

Mavis Irene Dalberg was born February 28, 1942, in Veblen, SD, to Ole and Alice (Bilben) Dalberg. She was baptized and confirmed in rural Veblen. While growing up, Mavis enjoyed riding horses with her sisters and cousins. They rode around the neighborhood and also to Veblen and Claire City. They also had fun racing. Mavis rode the fastest horse, Smokey.

Mavis and Darwin Osterman were united in marriage on December 14, 1961.

Throughout the years Mavis enjoyed the farm/ranch life, the outdoors with her livestock and animals, and doing chores with her son Gene. She spent a lot of time gardening with Cindy and also sneaking to the casino when she could. Mavis was a great cook. She made the best potato salad, cinnamon rolls and buns. A talented seamstress, Mavis was able to sew dolls and outfits and did a lot of patchwork. She loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. They brought lots of joy to her. She enjoyed all music but especially Elvis; she loved to dance and twist with him.

Mavis is survived by her husband, Darwin; son, Ronnie Flannery (Barb); daughters, Pam (Perry) Dykstra and Cindy (Todd) Block; siblings, Ardes (Jerry) Bybee, Norman (Kathy) Dalberg, Lorraine (Carlton) Fletcher, Gail Kelly, and Connie (Kermit) Anderson; daughter- in-law, Nicole Fenez; several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; brothers-in-law, Dennis Vig and Brad Griggs; sister-in-law, Melissa Dalberg; and several nieces and nephews.

Mavis is preceded by her son, Gene Osterman; parents; grandparents; sisters, Joanne Roth, Elaine Griggs and Beverly Vig; brother, Harold Dalberg; son-inlaw, James George; and brothers- in-law, Phil Peterson, Keith Kelly, Virgil Kaufman, Howard Roth and Rodrick Hornseth.

We all have made special memories and will miss her deeply. Now we can embrace the memories as they become treasures we will all cherish forever.
