MARY LOU (HOGLUND) OLSEN
The graveside service for Mary Lou (Hoglund) Olsen will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Rose Hill Cemetery of Langford, SD under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate.
Mary Lou Hoglund was born June 26, 1931 in Britton, SD to Gust and Esther (Rapp) Hoglund. She spent her girlhood days living with her family on various farms in Marshall County.
Her elementary education took place in a oneroom country school in Fort Sisseton townships. She attended Britton High School and graduated in 1949.
Mary Lou married Adrian Olsen in 1952. Adrian enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in various locations. He spent some of his Air Force time in Thule, Greenland and later was transferred to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA.
The Olsen family made their home in Sacramento, while Adrian taught at Luther Burbank Highschool. They would later live in Terra Linda, Terra Bella, and Yuba City, CA while Adrian was enrolled in the seminary and became a Presbyterian pastor at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City Ca. Mary Lou attended Yuba City College while living in Yuba City, and attained her AA degree from Yuba City College in 1978.
Moving back to Sacramento in 1978 Marylou worked for Raley’s Grocery Store until she retired as head clerk at the age of 70.
Mary Lou passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at her home.
She is survived by her two sons, Douglas Olsen and Charles Olsen, both of Sacramento; grandchildren Tavia Olsen and her family, and Cody Olsen; great-grandsons, Julian and Banjo Olsen of Sacramento; one sister, Rachel Marker of Healdsburg, CA; sister-in-law, Marge Hoglund of Langford, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Gust and Esther Hoglund; her siblings: Evelyn (Donald) Andrew, Beverly (Robert) Churchill, John (Shirley) Hoglund and James Hoglund; brother-in-law, Lyle Smith; and niece, Lisa Smith.
