LYLE SHILHANEK

The celebration of life for Lyle Shilhanek will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Eden Fire Hall in Eden, SD.

Lyle was born February 16, 1938 to Roy and Viola (Colestock) Shilhanek near Hecla, SD. He graduated from Hecla High School where he was a member of the Lake Region football team, that was state champions in 1954-55.

After finishing high school he went to work at Lehmann Manufactoring. Through the Lehmann family he met Yvonne From, who was living in Ortley, SD. They married in 1958, before he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Army until 1963.

Upon being discharged from the Army, he became a member of the carpenter union. He worked on various dams, power plants and paper mills across the United States. Lyle retired to Eden in 2001 where he made many friends. He loved to spend time hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his grandson, Levi (his favorite grandchild).

He passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at his home in Eden at the age of 85.

Lyle is survived by his children, Emily and Jason (Penny) Shilhanek; grandson, Levi Cooper; sisters, Melody Ellis, Harmony James and Candy Brandt; sister-in-law, Audrey Shilhanek; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Laverne.
