Luther Eldon Harvey Larson was born June 11, 1926 at the family farm in Independence Township, SD to Lewis and Hilma (Stenberg) Larson. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of Falnes Lutheran Church in rural Langford. He attended the local country school through 8th grade and went to Augustana Academy in Canton SD graduating from high school in 1944. It was in high school that he met his future wife, Vivian Rosser.

He attended South Dakota State College for a brief time, but his help was needed on the farm. He married Vivian on December 3, 1949 in Chicago. They spent their entire married life (almost 60 years) on that same farm. Vivian passed away in 2009.

Luther grew up in a musical family, learning to play the guitar at an early age. He sang his entire life; in church, at school, and in the community. He was a soloist in the Academy Choir, and often sang duets with family members. In the early years, he and Vivian entertained with his guitar, her accordion and their voices blended in harmony. Later on, he enjoyed singing with his 5 children accompanied by Vivian on the piano.

He continued to live at home helping Skip with the farming. He especially enjoyed driving his Caterpillar tractor out in the field. He moved to Sundial Manor in Bristol SD during July 2021 and passed away there on May 12, 2022, one month before his 96th birthday.

Luther is survived by his son, Luther (Skip) on the farm, his daughters Elizabeth (Robert) Hanson, Watertown SD, Robin (Mathew) Moran, Huron SD, and Sandra (Robert) Hastings, Britton SD, his sister, Myrene Bunge, Saint Joseph MO, 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

His parents, wife, daughter LuAnn Larson, infant son William David, brother Hans, sisters Genevieve Frykman and Elaine Larson, sister-in-law Sofie Larson, and brother-in-law Richard Bunge preceded him in death.
