LUELLA WEST
The memorial service for Luella West was Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. Diane Hoines officiated. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery of Langford, under the direction of the Olson Funeral Chapel of Britton.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
Luella Viola Rohrbach was born November 1, 1934 to John and Albina (Voegele) Rohrbach on the family farm near Hosmer, SD. She attended country school before moving to Aberdeen at the age of 13 with her sister to begin working. She worked at a variety of places while in Aberdeen, with one of them being Tiffany’s Dry Cleaning.
While living in Aberdeen she met Jesse B. West and they were married March 21, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They made their home on a farm near Langford and raised their children. When their children got older Luella started working for Dakotah Quilt Company. She began in the first location in Langford and later worked at the Pierpont and Webster locations. They lived on the farm until retirement and then moved into Langford. Jesse passed away on January 24, 2016. Luella remained in Langford until her health began to decline and she moved to assisted living in Bristol in November 2019.
Luella was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford and served in the circle group. She was also an Auxiliary member for many years with Henry Osness Post #141 of the American Legion. She enjoyed watching all sports, but was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins. Along with professional sports she made sure to keep up with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all the local sports teams. She will be remembered for her delicious homemade buns, Schwan Truck treats and her love for ice cream. The grandkids knew where her candy dish was that she always had full and ready for them whenever they stopped by to visit.
Luella passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Sanford Webster Medical Center at the age of 89.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children: Sharon Wattier, Larry (Nancy) West, Bonnie (Ricky) VanderVorst, Bobby West and Jessica (Kevin) Holler; her grandchildren: Erin Wattier, Carlene (Bernard) Wattier, Nathan Wattier, Mathew (Amanda) West, Jamie (Jody) Kruize, Brock West, Christina (Jason) McComsey, Mandy (Curtis) Kuecker, Jacob (Mindy) VanderVorst, Morgan (Heather) Holler and Shannon (KC) Wegleitner; 31 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Lorraine Beck, Delbert (Blondie) Rohrbach and Milbert (Lila) Rohrbach; and sister-inlaw, Bernice Rohrbach.
Preceded in death by husband, Jesse; her parents; infant son, James; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Wattier; and her siblings: Ramona Stoecker, Reinhold Rohrbach, Calvin Rohrbach and Adolph Rohrbach.
