The memorial service for Lester Jahnig, 50 of Hurley, formerly of Britton, SD, will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Britton. Pastor Lance Griese officiating. Inurnment of his cremains will take place at a later date. The Price Funeral Chapel of Britton has been entrusted with his arrangements.

Lester passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 in Sioux Falls.

Lester Eugene Jahnig was born July 27, 1971 in Britton, SD to Larry Eugene and Deanna Dawn (Olson) Jahnig. As a youngster, he grew up and attended school in Britton, graduating from Britton High School in 1989. Following graduation, Lester enlisted in the US Army and served for three years, most of that time in Germany. He returned to the United States and attended Northern State College in Aberdeen for a year. At that time, he transferred to Lake Area Vocational Institute in Watertown where he completed a two-year course of study in accounting.

On July 6, 1996 Lester was united in marriage with Stephanie Carol Price in Langford. They made their home in Irene, SD and Lester worked for the South Dakota National Guard. In 1997 they moved to Hurley and have lived there since that time. Lester worked for as an accountant for PSI in Sioux Falls and later was employed for a number of years by the Good Samaritan Society. His last job was with Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg.

Lester’s military service was of the utmost importance to him. He had been a member of the South Dakota National Guard for 32 years. During his time in the National Guard, Lester served three tours of Active Duty – two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He was a lifetime member of Reisenweber-Wolf Post #298 of Kidder, SD. He also belonged to both the Enlisted Association of the National Guard, United States and the Enlisted Association of the National Guard, South Dakota.

In his spare time, Lester greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go camping, boating and fishing. All of these pastimes allowed him to spend time with his boys. He had a great love of all animals as evidenced by the three dogs and two cats that were part of their family. He was an extremely handy person, and quite adept at woodworking. Lester was also a longtime member of the Hurley City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Jahnig of Hurley; his three sons: Nathan of Mitchell, SD; Ben and Carter of Hurley; his mother, Deanna Jahnig of Britton; four brothers: Lyle “Bumper” of Britton; Lance of Madison, SD; Lucas and Jason of Britton; and a number of nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceding him in death were his father and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
