LARRY “LB” BARRETT

LARRY “LB” BARRETT

The celebration of life for Larry “LB” Barrett will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Britton Event Center. There will be a visitation for an hour prior to the service at the event center.

Larry, known to many as LB, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 peacefully in his home due to natural causes.

Larry Alvin Barrett was born November 2nd, 1963 in Britton, SD to Herbert and Marjorie (Gerlach) Barrett. Growing up he attended school in Britton, graduating from Britton High School. He continued his education at Northern State University in Aberdeen where he studied Business Management and Physical Education, running on an athletic scholarship in cross country and track. Larry enrolled in the Army National Guard in 1985 and honorably discharged in 1993.

Larry had love in his heart for his children, for all of his friends, and his family. Those who knew him and worked with him will remember LB as someone who was playful and loved a practical joke; he was funny. LB was a lover of sports, not only invested in his own athletics growing up and his children’s athletics as they grew up, but watching Marquette basketball, Dodger baseball, and Cardinal football. He enjoyed rock and metal music, anything else he called “techno-crapno,” a term he coined. He got to share this love of rock and metal music with his son who listens, plays and sings. LB also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was known to have a quick, good shot- likely stemming from his marksman recognition during his enrollment. While LB wasn’t always a man of many words, he enjoyed a daily chat with the morning coffee crew at Cliff’s.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Kelsey Barrett (Lucas Chabela) of Kenosha, WI; Brandon Barrett (Kyra Derr) of Des Moines, IA; his twin brother, Gary Barrett of Britton, SD; his sister, Patty (Walt) Roehr of Britton, SD; his sister Susan Rasmussen of Des Moines, IA; mother of his children and former spouse Jill Beaner; a number of and extended family members.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his brother Jerry, and other extended family members.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Kelsey Barrett – 5809 36th Ave. – Kenosha, WI 53144.
