Memorial Service for John R. Vrchota, 94, of Watertown, SD formerly of Sisseton, SD will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Scott Dempster officiating. Urn Bearers will be John’s Grandsons and Honorary Urn Bearers will be all of John’s Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342.The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

John R. Vrchota was born on April 20, 1928 on the Vrchota Homestead in Marshall County to Joseph and Anna (Zahradnik) Vrchota. John attended school at the Old Stanley Country School through the eighth grade. John entered the United States Army in February 1951 and served until April 1952. He was stationed in Alaska as a cook. He married the love of his life, Evelynne Larson on November 12, 1951. After leaving the service they started ranching in Marshall County. He also drove truck for Harvey Nelson to support his family. While ranching, they raised 6 beautiful, wonderful, awesome kids. They enjoyed traveling to Mesa, Arizona every winter for 20 years. They ranched for many years before moving to Sisseton in 2007 and then Watertown in 2021. John enjoyed hunting with family and friends. He also loved fishing and really enjoyed his gardens. John had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. He had a smile and laugh that we all loved. John died peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 8, 2022.

John is survived by his wife, Evelynne Vrchota of Watertown, SD; and six children Susan (Alvin) Ruckdaschel of Whitewood, SD, Mary (William) Simon of Castlewood, SD, Jerry Vrchota of Lake City, SD , Jason (Kathy) Vrchota of Brookings, SD, Joseph Vrchota of Brookings, SD and Stacy (Judy) Vrchota of Aberdeen, SD; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Zahradnik) Vrvhota; ten sisters; four brothers and one grandson, Dustin Simon.
