James Fredrick Sattler was born May 14, 1941 to John F. and Frances R. (Johnson) Sattler in Britton, SD. He attended country school until he became a permanent fixture in the family farm operations. At the age of two, his family moved to the current homestead, where he has spent the last 80 years of his life. At the age of 21 his dad had him get in the car, drove to the bank, and told the banker that he was selling the family farm over to Jim. Jim farmed those same fields until the day he passed.

On July 21, 1961 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Rowland of Sisseton.Throughout those wonderful 61 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Over the last twenty years he kept a journal of what was going on in the kid’s, grandkid’s and friends lives, along with world events.

Family was very important to him. He always made sure his wife, children and grandchildren were priority number one and cherished time spent with all of them. Over the years, he looked forward to when siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews would come visit and stay at the farm in the summer. He enjoyed working cattle with his sons and grandsons, including them in his passion for farming.

In his earlier years Jim would go on trail rides at Hills Valley Riding Club with his daughter, son, brother, niece, friends and neighbors of the Stink Lake Social Club. In the summer he loved going to his son’s cabin on Roy Lake visiting with family and watching fireworks. He would drive collector tractors in the 4th of July parades in various towns with his son, grandsons and brother. He loved all animals and enjoyed raising them, especially horses, cattle, dogs and numerous cats.

He was a man of strong faith and was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden. Jim and Marilyn got up early every morning to pray the rosary for their family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Lake City; his children: Wayne Sattler of Watertown, SD, Eugene (Donna) Sattler of Webster, SD and Melinda (Vaughn) Reints of Pierpont, SD; grandchildren: Ryan Sattler, Kelsey (Jesse) Hetland, Marcus (Vicky) Sattler, Aaron Sattler, Madeline (John) Reints, Hayden Reints, Hudson Reints, Klasandra (Connor) Sattler and Clark (Macie) Saylor; great-grandchildren: Emma Sattler, Jack Sattler, Harper Sattler and Hadley Sattler; his siblings: Agnes Jahnig, Sherry (Anthony) Dalske, Myron Sattler, and Terry (Karen) Sattler.
