HEI H. MITCHELL

The Celebration of Life service for Hei (Butch) H. Mitchell of Lake View Terrace, CA and formerly of Hecla, SD will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla, with Pastor Sara Sorensen officiating.

Hei Herman Mitchell was born July 1, 1947 to Clyde and Anna (Gerdes) Mitchell in Aberdeen, SD. Hei grew up in the rural Hecla area. After graduating from Hecla High School in 1965 he joined his family in Glendale, CA. Hei worked several jobs in California before joining the United States Army in February 1966. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the 101st airborne division. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in June, 1968. Hei returned to California and worked construction with his brothers until his retirement. Hei was united in marriage to Pamela Miller on June 28, 1994. Pam’s love of animals, especially horses and dogs also became a love for Hei and he spent his retirement enjoying training border collie to herd and also did harness racing with his horses. Hei lived a full and happy life which include trips to England, Norway, Scotland, Costa Rica, Mexico and to Alaska to watch the Iditarod, and many trips back to SD and ND to visit with friends and relatives. Hei loved the outdoors especially camping, hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends as well as trail riding. He had a talent for cooking and hosted many affairs at his home, including weddings and meals for the many events that took place at his property.

Hei will be missed by his wife Pamela of 27 years, brothers, Clyde “Bill” (Sandy), Glenn, Donald (Pat), George (Conda), Timothy (Deena); sister, Darlene (John) Schroeder; his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and the many friends he made along the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.
