GERALD MCGREGOR

The memorial mass for Gerald McGregor will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden. Rev. Fr. Brian Simon will celebrate the mass. Gerald passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD at the age of 81, with his family at his side.

Gerald Joseph McGregor was born December 14, 1939 in Britton, SD to Eugene and Catherine (McMahon) McGregor. As a youngster, he grew up on the family farm in North Dakota and attended country school near Straubville.

After completing his education, Gerald began what would be his life’s work in agriculture. His first job was with Jarrett Ranches, and later he worked ten years each for Clark Lamport and Hellwig Ranch.

On April 24, 1957 Gerald was united in marriage with Arletta Krutsinger at Cogswell, ND. They made their home on various places where Gerald worked until purchasing a place of their own. In 1979, they bought the “Little Big Ranch” and Gerald fulfilled his life’s dream of owning and operating his own ranch. He loved driving his team of horses and used them quite frequently with work on the ranch. Over the years Gerald developed a keen instinct of what might be ailing any of his animals, and was quite a compassionate “vet.”

In addition to his love of animals, Gerald was truly a family man. He loved to go dancing with his best girl, and delighted in watching “Saturday Night Polka.” His kids, grandkids and great-grandkids were each very important to him. He was faithful not only to his family and critters, but also to his choice in vehicles and only drove Dodge Rams!

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 64 years, Arletta McGregor of Sisseton; his four children: Teresa (Albert) Diaz of Grand Forks, ND; Ron (Lisa Forcier) McGregor of Peever, SD; Karla (Mark) Janisch of Eden, SD; Gerald (Angel) McGregor of Britton; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Isabelle Poling of Florida.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers: John, William, Douglas, Jim and Donald; and two sisters: Peg and Juanita.

Condolences may be directed to the family in care of Arletta McGregor – 44892 SD Highway 10 – Sisseton, SD 57262.
