FAY KATHLEEN GOREHAM

Memorial Service for Fay Kathleen Goreham, 83, of Aberdeen will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Michael Jacobson will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery at Langford, SD at a future date.

Fay died December 15, 2021, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor. She fought a lengthy battle with cancer and survived only for it to return.

Fay Kathleen, daughter of Leonard and Florence Daisy (Collins) Hanson was born May 3, 1938, in Aberdeen, SD. She attended school at Langford, SD.

Fay was united in marriage to Lyle Goreham on October 10, 1954, in Langford Lutheran Church. They made their home southwest of Langford, where they farmed and raised seven children. She was a fiercely independent woman. In 1981 Fay moved to Aberdeen to attend Northern State University as a non-traditional student where she earned a bachelor’s in business and a minor in Education. She lived in different cities before returning to Aberdeen in 2000.

Over the years, Fay was a cook, waitress, bus driver, nurses’ aide and managed motels in Webster, Rapid City, SD, and California. She also was a manager at Bethesda and Rosewood Courts, nutritional supervisor at Parkside, and managed Direct Check.

Fay won awards for dart throwing and loved playing cards with her friends. She traveled to Australia, Hawaii, California, Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, Tennessee, and Wyoming. She loved her front porch, enjoyed rummage sales and hunting for a bargain. Each of her children and grandchildren received a quilt, which were collected by her over time. She had been a member of dart leagues, Red Hatters and card playing groups.

Grateful for having shared Fay’s life are her children, Mona (Jerald) Anderson of Gillette, WY, Pam (Rick) Backus of Rapid City, Jeff Goreham of Aberdeen, Gaylene (Dean) Haar of Aberdeen, Brenda (Steve) Brooks of Sioux Falls, Coleen (Ron) Monson of Langford, SD, and Amber Peterson of Rapid City; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-inlaw, Debra Goreham, grandson, Kyle Anderson; three brothers, one sister and her beloved dog, Bruno.
