DUANE “DANIE” THAYER

The memorial service for Duane “Danie” Thayer will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate and private inurnment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Duane William Thayer was born in Britton, SD to Harold and Lucille (Freiss) Thayer.

Over his working years, Danie worked for a number of different places such as Farmers Union, Butler Insurance, sales barn, and trucked for Clayton Ross. He also owned and operated a feed mill, the Britton bowling alley, and was a Federal Crop Adjuster for a number of years.

On April 15, 1951 he married Lorraine H. Nelson at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in Kidder, SD. They had been married almost 57 years at the time of her passing on April 4, 2008.

Duane began farming on his own in 1960 and bought the family farm in 1965.

His true passion, beyond farming, was hunting and fishing. He was a great story teller.

Duane passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the Marshall County Healthcare Center. He was 92 years of age.

Duane is survived by his three sons, Steve, Bradley, and Lynn David; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Joyce Kristofferson, Doris “Tug” (Marvin) Beck, Marlis “Molly” Williams, Claudia “Pudgie” McMahan, and Renae (Robert) Schroeder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother, Harvey Thayer.
