DORAN SCHLEKEWY
The Mass of Christian Burial for Doran Schlekewy will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden. Rev. Fr. Ken Lulf will celebrate the mass. Spring interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Lake City under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Doran M. Schlekewy was born September 17, 1941 in Britton, SD to Raymond and Cecelia (Gangle) Schlekewy. He attended country school until 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Britton High School.
Following graduation Doran began his career as a farmer on the family farm. He would spend the majority of his life tending to the farm and to the dairy cattle. In 1970 he married Gloria Cleveland and to that union, he was blessed with two children, Dawn and David. In 2001 he retired from farming and began working road construction for roughly ten years.
Doran was an avid fisherman, and truly loved spending the day fishing on the lake. He was also an excellent trapper. When not enjoying the outdoors Doran would attend Britton Braves basketball games and was a regular fixture throughout the season. He was awarded the Fan Award from the team for his unwavering support. Aside from Braves basketball he was a Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan. He loved the opportunity to go watch the Twins play live in Minneapolis. When with family he liked a good game of Canasta. He was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden.
Doran passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton, at the age of 81.
He is survived by his children, Dawn Marian and David (Dawnyel) Schlekewy; his granddaughter, Samara; his siblings: Orion (Virginia) Schlekewy, Gene (Norma) Schlekewy, Elaine Angone, Ronald (Marge) Schlekewy, James (Marilyn) Schlekewy, Wayne (JoAnne) Schlekewy; sisters-in-law: Ginny Schlekewy and Lauri Schlekewy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his brothers: Donald, LaVerne (Bobbie), Kenny, Gerald and Richard Schlekewy; and brother-inlaw: Conrad Agnone.
