DENNIS LEE BOONE

Dennis Lee Boone, 76, of Britton, passed away Sept. 1 at the Marshall County Hospital after a brief illness.

Dennis was born Feb. 3, 1945, in Britton to James and Gladys (Swan) Boone. He spent his early years in the Britton School District before moving with his family to Amherst where he graduated from high school in 1963.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy continuing a family tradition started by both his father and mother and continued eventually by three of his four brothers and a grandson, Zachary. He spent a career of 26 years in the Navy reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked to maintain combat information center displays of strategic and tactical information while on ship. Secondarily, he was an air traffic controller. He was a Vietnam veteran.

In 1975 he married Francisca Dimanlig in the Philippines and transferred in the Navy to San Diego, California, and remained there until his retirement in 1989.

Dennis returned to Britton in 1989 and worked as a gunsmith and did lawn mowing in the summers. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and, in recent years, drove around Britton with his dog, Sandy, as his constant companion.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Francisca, of San Diego, California; a daughter, Michelle Boone of San Diego; a son, Ronald (Laiza) Boone, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandsons, Zachary and Matthew of Los Angeles; and four brothers including Robert (Norma) Boone of Amherst, Loren (Deanna) Boone of Ripon, Wisconsin, Gerald Boone of Gulf Port, Mississippi, and Kim (Sally) Boone of Albany, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, in 1982; his parents, James and Gladys Boone; paternal grandparents, Gerrit and Jacoba (Cleveringa) Boone; and maternal grandparents Harry and Pearl (Farrington) Swan.
