DEBRA HOINES
The memorial service for Debra Hoines will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Langford. Rev. Dr. Ramona Hayes will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Falnes Cemetery of rural Langford under the direction of the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service at the church.
Debra C. Hoines was born April 29, 1948 to Edwin and Myrtle (Nickelson) Hoines. She attended Langford for her elementary years and later graduated from Claremont High School in 1966. After graduation, she attended Northern State and obtained her teaching degree in 1970. She taught eight years in Hecla, SD, one year in Roslyn, SD, and ended her teaching career after twelve years at James Valley Christian School in Huron, SD.
After retiring from teaching, she began working as an accountant. Over 20 years in finance, she worked for Citibank in Sioux Falls and then with Good Samaritan Headquarters. Following her retirement, she made her home in Langford until moving into Sun Dial Manor in Bristol in early 2022.
While spending her later years in Langford, she loved being surrounded by her family. Family was important to her and she had a sweet spot in her heart for children. Collecting the family’s genealogy, Deb enjoyed sharing the family’s history.
Deb loved to travel, making memories all over the world— trips with her sister and family— trips with friends. She traveled the east and west coast of the United States, and after three trips to Norway, she could boast about climbing Preikestolen Rock. On a trip to Germany, a highlight was the Oberammergau Passion play.
Her faith was powerful, and she was a mighty prayer warrior. She had a heart for others and visitation ministry including Stephen Ministry at Our Saviors Lutheran in Sioux Falls and visitation for the Langford Lutheran Parish. Although cooking wasn’t her first calling, she was known for her cheeseballs and sometimes Swedish pancakes. She collected any and all things – PENGUIN!
Deb passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol at the age of 74.
She is survived by her sister, Diane Hoines of Langford; and a host of cousins in the Hoines, Swanson, Potter, and Nickelson families and many dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Juel.
