CHARMAINE YOUNG

The Mass of Christian Burial for Charmaine Young will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. John de Britto Catholic Church in Britton. Rev. Fr. Albert Cizewski will officiate. Interment will be at Britton Cemetery under the direction of the Olson Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 Thursday at the church, concluding with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service.

Charmaine Phyllis Kjolberg was born November 4, 1936 to Clarence and Olive (Doty) Kjolberg in Mahnomen, MN. She was raised on a farm outside of Waubun, MN and graduated from Waubun High School in May 1954.

On May 19, 1956 she married Andrew “Andy” Young in Waubun. In the late 1950’s they moved to Britton, SD. She was a housewife, worked eleven years at Shousha Clinic in Britton and also babysat her grandchildren throughout the years. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Andy passed away March 2019, and Charmaine remained in Britton.

Charmaine had a servant’s heart and volunteered at the food pantry and meals on wheels for many years. She enjoyed her days at the senior center playing cards and socializing with friends. She loved flowers and gardening. In her free time she did some golfing and reading.

Faith was extremely important to her and she was a faithful member of St. John de Britto Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, taught Sunday school, and involved in various church activities with her church family. She was also a member of the Auxiliary.

Charmaine passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at Wheatcrest Hills in Britton, at the age of 87.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children: Cheryl Petterson of Moorhead, MN, Terry (Renae) Young of Billings, MT, Rhonda Wheeler of Gwinner, ND, Allan (Kathy) Young of Veblen, SD, and Steve Young of Britton; her grandchildren: Don Pettersen, Ryan (Kristina) Pettersen, Trevor Pettersen, Kyle (Kelsey) Young, Jessica (Steve) Glancey, Cassandra (Clay) Campbell, Spencer (Jill) Cody, Stacy (Derick) Bretsch, Taylor Young, Kira (Devin) Odenbach; 22 greatgrandchildren and one greatgreat- grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Annette; her sister; and three great-grandchildren.
