BEVERLY “BEV” BRUMMOND

The funeral service for Beverly “Bev” Brummond will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Britton. Rev. Terrill Sorensen will officiate the service. Interment will be at the Havana Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Beverly Jane Turner was born to Hamlin O. and Norma E. (Olson) Turner on August 4, 1932 in Faulkton, SD where she grew up and graduated from high school. At an early age she gave herself the nickname “BJ.” (Her father was H.O. Turner so why shouldn’t she be B.J. Turner?)

She attended South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD graduating with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education in 1954. She taught 2 years in Tripp, SD, 1 year in Britton, SD and 1 year in Middle River, MN.

During high school she worked summers at the Faulkton Café. During her college years she worked 2 summers as a ward attendant at the South Dakota Mental Hospital in Yankton, SD and 2 summers as an assistant cook for the Minneapolis YWCA summer camp in Excelsior, MN. In 1956 she and 4 friends drove to Montreal, Canada where they boarded a ship and sailed to Europe for 5 weeks of touring.

On July 10, 1957, in Faulkton, SD she was united in marriage to John J. “Jack” Brummond of Havana, ND. They moved to Middle River, MN where they lived 4 years. They moved back to Havana, ND in 1961 to take over the Brummond family farm.

Bev was a lifetime member of the American Legion since 1939. She was a member of the Congregational Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was an active member of the community. Some of her loves were teaching Sunday school, Homemakers Club, playing cards – especially Bridge, and gathering with friends at the Farmer’s Inn Café for coffee.

Beverly “Bev” passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2024 at Wheatcrest Hills at the age of 91.

Bev is survived by her three children: Dr. Kimberley (Shelley Quandt) Brummond, Bradley (Susan) Brummond and Boyd (Teresa) Brummond; her 6 grandchildren: Jordan (Katie Carpenter) Brummond, Andrew (Danica) Brummond, Gretchen (Matthew Fraser) Brummond, Turner Brummond, Hannah (Jacob) Brooke, and JonCarl Brummond.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 62 years, Jack.
