Barbara Jo Smith was born August 12, 1949 in Aberdeen, SD to Gerald and Ramona (Aves) Smith. She attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in 1967.

Barb worked many jobs over the years with her caring personality most pertained to hospitality and helping others. She held positions as a CNA, assembler at Hortons, department manager at Holiday Inn as well as Herberger’s, she was a trainer and business development manager for Wyndham, she claimed the title “Jack of all trades, master of none, but better than most”. She loved her final position managing the Britton Country Club until her health prevented her from continuing.

For over thirty years she was able to share in life’s journey with the love of her life, Neil Peters. They loved to travel and explore new places with the company of their family and friends. Many memories were made taking cruises and traveling to places like Florida, Hawaii, and Alaska. She attended many of the grandchildren’s sporting events and was by far their biggest fan. There were many trips made with only grandchildren and the friends of those grandchildren, she just loved traveling. After retiring they were snowbirds in Arizona. She enjoyed meeting and creating new friends as well as entertaining family and friends who came to visit. She was recently blessed to take a vacation to Florida with her children and grandchildren. Neil passed away on March 12, 2022.

Above all else it was her deep and abiding love of family that will be remembered. She was especially fond of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who brought her great joy. She was always willing to include more as her family grew. She always had a full candy dish for kids and a treat for the four legged friends that visited.

Barb passed away Friday, November 25, 2022 at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a strong woman, some might even say she was stubborn. She considered everything that happened in her life to be “just another chapter in the book of life”. What a wonderful book she could have written.

Barb is survived by her children: Kristin Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, Timothy (Dani) Dahme of Britton, and Troy Dahme of Britton; ten grandchildren: Jared (Lacey) Holland, Hillarey (Clayton) Warner, Zachary Anderson, Karsen (Autumn) Holland, Kaitlin Dahme,Austin Dahme, Maggie(TylerGefroh)Dahme, Morgan (James) Erickson, Nathan Dahme, and Blayden Downs; 13 great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Steven Smith, Jeri Smith, Mitchell (Gloria) Smith, and Lynn (Randy) Carlson. Many nieces, nephews, and their children. Her beloved four legged companion Sherman.

Preceding her in death are her parents; Gerald Smith and Ramona (Charlie) Pitkin, her loving companion, Neil Peters; and her brothers, Kenneth and Douglas Smith.
