Allen Anderson was born on May 8, 1934, in Newport Township near Langford, SD on the family farm, to Anton and Olga (Jerde) Anderson the second of four children. He grew up on the family farm west of Langford, where he attended church. His elementary education was received in rural Marshall County schools and he graduated from Langford High School in 1952.

Allen “Bubs” Anderson was united in marriage to Janice Goreham on November 4, 1955 in Langford. After marriage Allen and Janice traveled to New Jersey, Georgia, and eventually Germany while Allen was enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, Allen was a member of Military Police (MP) among other assignments. Allen was honorably discharged at the rank of SP 5 Buck Sergeant in 1958. After their return from Germany, Allen and Janice made their home on a farm southwest of Langford.

Together Allen and Janice worked hard to build the family farm. During his years farming Allen raised livestock such as milk cows, stock cows, pigs, sheep, horses and chickens. He also farmed the soil raising wheat, corn, sunflowers, flax, oats, and barley.

Allen was affectionately called Bubs by all who knew him. Bubs worked sun up to sun down with livestock and crops while farming, but was never too busy at the end of the day to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He nurtured his daughter Lori’s love for horses and his son Chad’s love for hunting. He was known as a compassionate soft-hearted man who was kind to all. He was a devoted father, husband and grandfather who always put family first. Bubs also enjoyed wood carving during retirement and carved many wonderful works such as cowboys, horses, buffalo and eagles. He especially enjoyed carving Santa Claus and giving them to his family to display during Christmas. Bubs also loved gardening. He was especially talented at raising watermelons which he loved to share with everyone. Bubs was also a Mason for 60 years.

Allen and Janice raised two children, Lori and Chad, and shared over 60 years of marriage before Janice passed away in 2016. Bubs continued to make the farm near Langford his home until he passed away.
