Allan Gene Johnson was born February 9, 1941 to Luther Leroy Johnson and Anna Berget Waage Olson Johnson in Britton, SD. He attended country school for 4 years and then his family moved to Langford, SD where he graduated from Langford High School in 1959. While in school Allan played football and basketball.

After high school, he worked in St. Paul, MN at the Armours Meat Packing plant for several months. Following that he moved back to Langford and went to work for Carl Davidson at Davidson’s Garage. He then went to work for Kenneth Jones and Archie Palm, on their farms for a few years. After that, Russell Fortner offered him a job at the Farmers Union in Britton, SD. He moved to Britton and worked as a mechanic, delivered propane, spread fertilizer for the farmers and worked on furnaces.

On August 4, 1961 he married Phyllis Siers. They shared 64 wonderful years together. They were blessed with four children, Michael, Jeffrey, Scott and Teresa, and in addition came 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

When the fertilizer plant was going to be built in Hecla, SD Allan was offered the job as manager. He moved his family in 1973 and continued in this job for 10 years until the plant was sold to the local Farmers Union. At that time he made a career change and decided to change his woodworking hobby into a full time business. Throughout the years he built many houses, remodeled numerous homes and built cabinets and furniture until he retired in 2018.

Allan and Phyllis moved to Fargo, ND in 2019 to be close to their daughter and her family. He planned to continue his woodworking in his retirement but health issues didn’t allow it. Besides loving to do woodworking, he also enjoyed hunting, especially with the bow, fishing and gardening.

For 30 years he served as the SD Wildlife Federation East River At Large board member, was a board member for church council and served on the City of Hecla board for the summer recreation program. He built the Hecla Sportsman Club house with the help of his son, Scott, and other members of the Club. He also held positions of president and treasurer of the club for a number of years.

Allan passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Sanford in Fargo, with his wife and daughter beside him, at the age of 85.

Allan is survived by his wife, Phyllis Johnson of Fargo, ND; son, Michael (Marilyn) of Aberdeen, SD and their children, Linda Ford, Jolene (David) Malsam, Becky Ford and Curtis (Leslie) Ford; son, Jeffrey (Kristi) of Spencer, IA and their children, Chelsea, Tyler (Laura), Sara (Brice) and Lexy (Taylor); son, Scott (Corinna) of Rapid City, SD and their children, Dain, Drew (Daniella) and Aric (Kayla); and daughter, Teresa Olson (Mark) of Fargo, ND and their children,MakennaandHannah (Jesse); 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, LeRoy Johnson and sister, Marjorie Liknes.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Luther and Anna Johnson; brothers, John, Luther, and Ancel; and sisters, Clarice Larson and Arlene Sandve.
