The memorial service for Richard “Rich” Evans will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Britton United Methodist Church. Pastor Robert Moorlach will officiate the service.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard J. Evans was born on December 27, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA at the Doctor’s Hospital to William “Bill” and Ruth (Burger) Evans. He attended his grade schooling in the Los Angeles area until moving to South Dakota at the age of 14 when his mother married Vern Wampler. He attended Britton High School for a few years before returning to California and graduating from LaCrescenta Valley High School in 1963.

In 1965 he married Barbara Snow and they were blessed with two children, Christine “Chris” and Richard “Todd”. They later separated and in 1972 he married Susan Roberts, and they welcomed a daughter, Kelly.

Rich worked in various automotives shops in the LA area before moving to Britton, SD. He married Carrie “Dolly” Wampler-Hastings in Glendale, AZ. They moved to the Sacramento area in the Spring of 1979. They lived in Northern California where he eventually bought a Midas Automotive in Chico, CA. In 2008 they retired to Arizona until October 2025 when they returned to Britton, SD.

His favorite pastimes were hunting elk and pigs. He enjoyed fishing and camping and loved restoring classic cars. The latest car he restored was his step father’s 58 Apache Chevy, which earned him several trophies at car shows. Most importantly was his love for his family. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved them all very much.

Richard J. Evans passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Marshall County Healthcare Center at the age of 80. “Be free of all holding you down for too long – we will miss you.” = Richard is survived by his wife, Dolly; his children: Christine “Chris” Miller of Sacramento, CA, Richard “Todd” (Patricia) Evans of Lake Elsinore, CA, Kelly (Rylan) Shorts of West Jordan, UT and Michael “Mike” (Gayle) Hastings of Britton, SD; his grandchildren: Cody Feyerabend, Nick Miller, Breanna Blueford, Cheyanne Miller, Dylan Evans, Lytra Evans, Drahcir Evans, Stockton Shorts, Kylan Shorts, Avery Shorts, and Matt Hastings; his greatgrandchildren: Karter, Randi, Kaden, Thomas, Nellie, Kyler and Ryker; his brother, Frank (Carol) Evans; Vern’s daughters, Vergie Wallace and Deanna Muth; a special cousin, Judy (Steve) Ramos; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Preceding him to heaven were his parents, Bill (Betty) Evans and mother, Ruth (Vern) Wampler.
