DEB MACK
DEB MACK

Today is a very good day to die. The sun is shining down on the SD prairie which I love. My children have all come home which fills me with joy & so now I am ready to go to the place that Christ has prepared for me. Unlike Thomas, I know the way; Jesus has told me. He is the way, & the truth & the life. No one comes to the Father except thru me. If you really know me, you know my Father as well. John 14:6 I was born on February 10, 1949 in Britton SD. My parents were Lyle J & Pat (Emma L Kiese) Sherburn. My big brother, Roger, welcomed me home. I was baptized on Palm Sunday of 1949 at the First Presbyterian Church of Britton. I grew up on the family farm northeast of Britton, & still hold it close to my heart. My brother, John, & I created many memories on the farm, especially on horseback.
First thru twelfth grade were at the Britton Public School. I loved education & learning & looked forward to each day at school. I was involved in any activity girls could be involved in. My junior year, I was inducted into the National Honor Society & my senior year, I was elected student body president. Following graduation in 1967, I attended Jamestown College for one year for social work. During that time, I married Dean Larson of Claremont & we were blessed with four amazing children. I graduated from Northern State Teachers College on Friday, August 13, 1971, with a degree in secondary education with an emphasis on English & minor in speech.
In 1976, I began teaching English & speech in Britton High School. Dean and I parted ways & in 1986 I decided to follow the call that Christ had for my life so I retired from teaching & began attending North American Baptist College in Sioux Falls & graduated from seminary in May of 1989 while serving as pastor at Garretson & was ordained as a deacon in the UMC. I was reappointed to the Alexandria/Fulton, SD UMC in 1992 & was ordained an elder. I then was appointed pastor to the Gayville/Volin UMC & associate to Yankton UMC. Then to the Selby/Mobridge Methodist Church in 1999 & it was then that Norman C Mack, a former teaching colleague at BHS, reentered my life & on August 28, 2004, we were married in the Selby Methodist Church. In 2005, I was appointed to the South Maple UMC in Rapid City SD & then to the Tulare United Church in 2007. I suffered a severely broken ankle & was appointed to my hometown, Britton UMC in 2009 & we returned to Britton to be closer to family, friends & the lake cabin. I retired in 2011 & Norm & I did some traveling up the east coast & bus tours to the Green Bay Packer games.
Those who have passed before me are: my mother & father; my in-laws, Charles & Jessie Mack, Emil and Florence Larson; my brothers, Roger Sherburn & Darwin LaBatte; & my sister-in-law, Mary Jean Mack.
Those that I leave to celebrate my life are my husband Norm Mack; my children, JaNann (Lonnie) Jones & their children; Amanda (Zach) Christenson, Brad (Madison) Jones, AmyLeigh (RJ) Jonson, Dylan (Cassie) Jones, Riley (Chloe Furman) Jones; Kipp (Christy) Larson & their children, Emma & Evan; Kurtis (Tammy) Larson & their children, Kassidy (Turner) Smith, Kalli; Ryer and Kye Larson; JaKelle (Chad) Hardy & their children, Tucker Jo, Gunner & Booker Hardy; Brian Schwartz (foster son); my brother, John, & his children, Todd & Angela (Colin); my sister, Jayne (Bill) Carey & their children, Caleb (Kayla), Nate (Heather), Josiah, Noah, Raquel, Katrina (Nick), Savita (Joe), & Micah (Natalie). Five great grandchildren, Calvin Christenson, Riverlynn, Nova Rose, & Sage Jones, & Laramie Jones. I must include our cat, Rascal; & good friends, Kay Friebel & Judy Pfitzer.
I’ve lived a good life; many ups & downs, lots of prayers that have sustained me; so now, Deb Mack, 2/10/49 has left the building.
