Dad had many accomplishments to his name. He served and was wounded in combat in the Vietnam War. He was a farmer. He became Park Ranger at Custer State Park, as well as Deputy Fire Chief. He was Deputy Sheriff for Codington County. And also was the Assistant Park Manager and worked law enforcement for the Game Fish and Parks in Watertown, SD. With all his great accolades that he so humbly kept under his belt, his best by far were his girls. Loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Smart; his daughters, Treva (Marty) Anderson of Milford, IA and Tyranny Smart of Britton; his granddaughters, Trinity Anderson of Jackson, MN and Taylor and Talyn Anderson of Spirit Lake, IA; and his sister, Ginger Smart.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Joan Smart and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Dexter passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Marshall County Healthcare Center at age of 78.
