GERALD SCHNEIDER

GERALD SCHNEIDER

The funeral service for Gerald Schneider will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Britton United Methodist Church. Pastor Robert Moorlach will officiate the service. Spring burial will take place in the Britton Cemetery.

Gerald L. Schneider was born September 19, 1932 in Britton, SD to Robert and Gertie (Thompson) Schneider. He was raised on the farm east of Britton and attended country school through 8th grade. His family later moved to the farm southwest of Britton. He graduated from Britton High School in 1950.

Following graduation he began farming full time before enlisting in the Army in 1954 for two years. During his time in the service he was a helicopter mechanic. On July 2, 1955 he was united in marriage to Dorthy Foote at the Langford Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children and had recently celebrated 70 years of marriage this past July.

After his time in the service he returned to the farm and continued to work at making it a better place all his life. In 1983 he and Dorthy moved from the farm into Britton. That did not stop him from still going out to help on the farm though. It was not until he turned 90 that he fully retired from the farm. When he wasn’t farming he enjoyed going fishing and catching those big fish! He was a member of Britton United Methodist Church.

Gerald passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, at the age 93.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorthy Schneider; his children, Lee (Darda) Schneider, Joy (Steve) Powers and Kay (Doug) Daly; his grandchildren: Athena (Juan) Nino, Sheila (Jarett) Fox, Jessica (Bill) Feigal, Aaron (Sarah) Schneider, Brian Schneider, Jason (Tiffani) Mix-Schneider, Melissa (Eric Marcotte) Powers, Jon (Jennifer) Powers, Alex (Stephanie) Brandt, Angela (Perryn) Dobbins and Ryder Daly; 27 great-grandchildren; his sister, Karen (Roger) St. Sauver; and sister-in-law, Lucille Green.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Donald Schneider; his sisters, Marilyn Likness and Darlene Planteen Johnson; and greatgrandson, Atticus Schneider.
