Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the church, concluding with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service.
Arlene L. “Beanie” Hills was born on December 27, 1932 in Beardsley, MN to Ora and Hazel (Doschadis) Hills. She was child number five out of sixteen children and grew up on the family farm. She attended country school and later went on to attend high school in Beardsley. After two years of high school she was needed at home to help raise her younger siblings, which she truly enjoyed.
On October 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to William “Willie” Deutsch. They were blessed with five children and made their home on the farm east of Eden. Arlene worked at Super Valu, Dakota Quilting and Buffalo Lake Restaurant, where she helped with the baking, and people were always fond of her wonderful apple pies. Her most important and fulfilling job was being a homemaker, mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1984 Arlene and Willie moved from the farm into Eden while their son Randy took over the farming operations. They spent 71 years happily married before Willie’s passing in December 2020. The last few years she resided at Spruce Court Assisted Living in Britton, where she enjoyed her time with the other residents and staff.
Arlene was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of Relay for Life, and for a number of years she joined a quilting group in Roslyn. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and always had the games on. She was a great baker and cook - some memorable meals she made were her potato soup and schmawm and fried bologna sandwiches. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Throughout her life she had a love for music, whether it was singing, yodeling, tap dancing or square dancing, she enjoyed it all.
Arlene passed away Friday, September 5, 2025 at Marshall County Healthcare Center at the age of 92.
