EVELYN “EVIE” EVON BURKHARDT TELIN

On June 5, 1952, Evie was united in marriage to Jack Telin. In 1953, they purchased the Koskela farm in Liberty Township, where they raised livestock and farmed the land. In 1962, Jack and Evie opened Sand Lake Lanes in Hecla, which they proudly owned and operated for 27 years before retiring in 1989. The couple moved to Hecla in 1963 and raised their four children: Jacqueline, Kim, Tyler, and Todd. Evie was known for her competitive spirit and love of sports. She was an avid bowler and golfer, participating in state bowling tournaments across South Dakota. She won the Oakes Women’s Golf Tournament and, alongside Jack, claimed victory in the KDDR Couples Golf Tournament in Oakes. She was formerly a member of Saints Mary and Mark Episcopal Church in Oakes and later became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla.
Evie is survived by her children: Kim Parrish of Garden Grove, CA; Tyler (Cathy) Telin of Hecla, SD; and Todd (Tesha) Telin of Minot, ND. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Troy (Miranda) Telin, Tyson Telin, Wesley Parrish, Harkin Telin, and Palmer Telin; and step-grandchildren: Taylor Jarmin, Abbie Jarmin, Tracie Malpert, Cassanda Sumption, Katrina Knecht, and Kami Kalt, and great grandchildren Gavin, Christian, Gregory and Argious. She is also survived by her brother, Colin (Sharon) Burkhardt; sistersin- law Sandy Burkhardt and Kathy Burkhardt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Evie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her parents, Peter and Edna; daughter Jacqueline “Jackie” Telin Olson; granddaughter Scherstina Olson; grandson Kyle Parrish; sister Wilma Raugutt; brothers Roger, Raymond, and Doyle Burkhardt; sister-in-law Janet Burkhardt; and brother-in-law Walter Raugutt.
Evie will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her love for sports and community, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla followed by burial at Hecla City Cemetery.
