DAVID F. REISENWEBER

DAVID F. REISENWEBER

David F. Reisenweber, Duluth, MN passed away at his home on June 15,2025 following a long series of health problems chief among them COPD and long COVID.

He was born August 10,1946 to Harriet (nee Smith) and Reuben Reisenweber of rural Britton, SD, and was raised on their farm near Havana, ND. David graduated from Havana High School as co-valedictorian, attended Wahpeton School of Science for two years and in 1970 graduated from UND with majors in history and economics. Always wanting to know more he maintained keen interest in civic, political and social justice matters. David taught middle school in Sisseton for seven years farming weekends and summers. In 1973 he married Doretta (Dorie) Dyce. Four years later he began farming full-time north of Britton. In 1979 a lively redhead strayed into his life. His beloved Tootsie remained David’s constant canine companion for nearly 12 years.

Involved with farming since a boy, farming came naturally to him. David and his brother Mark and their father were among the first in the area to successfully grow sunflowers and soybeans. Early on they adopted no-till farming. He valued his terms serving on the Forman area Farmers Union board. Knowledge and research, hard work and perseverance brought success. David did not believe in wasting time or resources.

David and Dorie retired from farming and moved to Watertown, SD in 1995, residing there until 2004, when they moved to Duluth. “Go, see, look, learn” was his motto. He yearned to travel. Wherever David lived, he made sure he knew the history and haunts of the area and delighted in giving tours to friends and family. In their younger years the two of them made road trips throughout both Dakotas and Minnesota as well as more distant states. They enjoyed camping and for a few summers parked their Scamp along the North Shore. In later years they took several memorable bus tours to New Orleans, Key West and New England. The pair made two independent trips to Europe. To the end David always wondered what lay beyond the horizon.

Preceded in death by his parents David is survived by his wife Dorie, his brother Mark (Suhad) of rural Havana, ND, his nephews and their children: Kyle (Gretchen) of Norfolk, NE and Ben (Jenny) of rural Havana along with many cousins in the area and throughout the country. Also surviving him are friends near and far, new and old.

At his request there will be no service. Perhaps you will remember him when you hear Sinatra’s refrain “I did it my way.” You can be sure he did it well.

Arrangements were with the Cremation Society of MN, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth, MN 55807.
