CHAD LANE ELLESTAD

CHAD LANE ELLESTAD

Chad Lane Ellestad, age 54, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on June 24, 2025. Born on September 28, 1970, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Chad was the cherished son of Mary (Landuyt) Ellestad and Tyrell Ellestad. A talented commercial finish carpenter, Chad worked with the St. Paul Local Carpenters Union. In addition, in recent years, he also poured many of his skills into rehabbing homes across the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. His craftsmanship, work ethic, and eye for detail were second to none. Chad attended Aberdeen Central High School. He earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Construction & Maintenance from Mitchell Technical College in Mitchell, South Dakota. He began his career in commercial construction, working with his father at Kyburz-Carlson Construction in Aberdeen before moving to the Twin Cities. Chad was well known for his quick, biting wit and irreverent sense of humor. He had a legendary ability to deliver a sharp oneliner, often catching friends and family off guard with his impeccable timing. Beneath that teasing nature was a kind and soft heart, one that showed up in the care he gave to others, his love of animals (especially cats), and his strong devotion to his family. Outside of work, Chad had a deep passion for motorcycles, especially his beloved Harley Davidson.

Chad is survived by his loving parents, Mary (Landuyt) Ellestad and Tyrell Ellestad; his brothers Todd (Stacey) Ellestad and Darin (Sara) Ellestad; his sister Tara (Chris) Mehalovich; his nieces and nephews Josh (Megan), Kara (Ryan), Gabbie, Ayden, CJ, and Brit; and his great-nieces and nephews Reese, Reagan, Finnegan, Jud, and Marlo, his uncles and aunts John and Nancy Blaise, Richard and JoAnn Landuyt, Shelly Ellestad-Swanson, Deanna Ellestad and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Tyrell and Ethel Ellesatd, his maternal grandparents Louis and Wilma Landuyt, uncle Dennis Ellestad and Cousin Michael Landuyt.

Chad leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and superior craftsmanship. His humor, heart, and handiwork will be remembered always by those lucky enough to know and love him.

A celebration of Chad’s life was held on Monday June 30th, 2025 at 11AM with visitation one hour prior at Thurston-DeShaw Funeral Home.
